Two members of the VCFA MFA in Graphic Design community, Chris Lange (GD ‘24) and Leah Chutz (GD ‘24), have been named as 2024 GDUSA Graphic Design Students to Watch.
GDUSA is America’s premier graphic design publication. Every year, GDUSA publishes a list of graphic designers who they believe are “…top students ready to burst on the graphic design scene.”
Both Chutz and Lange graduated from VCFA in the early months of 2024, and had their thesis projects displayed in their graduating exhibition, in_between. Chutz’s thesis, “$2.25 out the door,” explored place and the undeniable connection between memory and geography. Lange’s thesis, A Delicate Urgency: Reclaiming creative agency from under the illusion of digital efficiency, critically analyzes the very digital tools available to a graphic designer, challenging the control, monopoly, and power of these tools. Additionally while at VCFA, Lange was recognized as a VCFA Center for Arts + Social Justice Fellow, and received a grant in support of his open-source, co-operative website, the Anti-Subscription Catalogue (www.a-s-c.org). The project uplifts equitable access to graphic design tools.
