traversingwithonions was an interdisciplinary collaboration and a visual and conceptual phantasy conceived by Sondra Graff as a second semester VCFA project.
It combined the inspiration of Dada, Surrealism and Butoh with an idiosyncratic ability to play. Dancers, musicians and 750 pounds of red onions contributed to the mix. A summer’s day in upstate New York provided the photographic backdrop for this playful and at times arduous gathering of artists and onions.
Parts of traversingwithonions will be shown at New Views: FIT Art and Design Faculty Exhibition from March 7–22, 2015 in New York City. The installation features photography by Ellen Crane and the work of performers Celeste Hastings, Petra van Noort, Ann Ramsey & Maia Wechsler.

The generosity of an extensive cast and crew conjoined with the mentorship of Silas Munro culminated in an idiosyncratic response to the questioning of “How is this Graphic Design?”
traversingwithonions was indeed a traverse—exploring existentialism, improvisation and task driven prompts.
