During the Fall 2016 residency second semester VCFA students worked with guest critic and designer Aaris Sherin to develop a series of position pieces about the role writing plays in different areas of design.
The workshop started with a collective brainstorming session where participants created source material for their writing.
During the remainder of the two-hour session students worked together in small groups to develop narratives about how writing informs design practice, how it informs the work of design educators, the importance of writing within the VCFA program and challenges designers face when they write.
Over the upcoming week, Perpetual Beta will publish all four of these essays which reflect the ideas collected and recounted by VCFA students during the Chronicling Design workshop.
